NAIL

NAIL ANATOMY

Nail is made up of keratin scientific name –ONYX

Made up of dead hardest keratin -translucent plate- protective covering for the tips of finger and toes- main composition- keratin – healthy nail is flexible, shiny and pink in color- whitish in color

MATRIX

Give nourishment to the nail, base of nail, produce new cell, contains blood vessels. the nail matrix is the tissue underneath the nail root produces the nail plate.

NAIL ROOT

Under the skin, help growing nail. the nail plate originates and is hidden beneath the proximal nail fold.

NAIL BED

Supports nail plats, parts of the skin upon which line the nail plats, contains nerves, blood vessels, which provide diet for the nail

CUTICLE

It is at the base of nail, near lunula, cuticle are dead skin cells, function is to protect the matrix from the infection. the cuticle is a thin layer of dead skin.

LUNULA/ HALF MOON

Occurs at the base of the nail, visible part of matrix. while often associated with health indicators, lunula are primarily a normal part of nail anatomy.

NAIL PLATE

Visible portion of nail which rests upon the nail bed from damage divide into three parts. Translucent, nail body, nail root free edge.

NAIL WALL/ NAIL FOLD

Nail fold of the skin overlapping the side of nail. It forms a frame protect the visible part of the nail in all three sides. The frame reproducing new cells and shedding of dead cells.

HYPONYCHIUM

Highly sensitive part of the nail, found near the finger tips, under the free edge, It contains blood vessels and nerves. Protect the nail bed from infection, protect by free edge.

FREE EDGE

End portion of nail plate, whitish in color, it is no longer attached to the nail bed.

NAIL GROOVES

Protect the nail bed from infection, lies along side of the free edge of the nail plate, it keep the nail growing.

EPONYCHIUM

The thickened layer of the skin at the base of the finger nails.

NAIL DISEASE AND DISORDER

DISORDER

Something not in proper order, can be treated by a cosmetology, does not need medical attention.

DISEASE

Abnormality, can be treated only by doctors, need medical attention. common nail diseases include nail psoriasis, fungal  infections paronychia and more.

HANG NAILS (DISORDER)

Dry cuticle, redness, soreness around the cuticle that can lead to secondary infection. CAUSE- dehydration, cutting of live cuticle, coreless ness in removing cuticle.

TREATMENT

Proper nail core, oiling around cuticles, paraffin manicure, application of hand and cuticle cream.

LEUKONYCHIA(DISORDER)

White spots on nails. CAUSE- poor dirt, air bubble gap between nail plate and nail bed, damage t matrix

TREATMENT

No treatment once the nail grows out, it eventually grow out with nails.

FURROW (DISORDER)

Also called preparation  in nails line on nails. CAUSE- systemic, illness, poor diet, damage to matrix.

TREATMENT

Regular manicure.

ONYCHOCRYPTOSIS (DISEASE)

The corners or side of toe nails grows inworld instead to growing out worlds, also called ingrown nails. CAUSE– internal disorder, shock, trauma, injury.

TREATMENT

Do not treat refer the clint to the chiropodist.

BEA US LINES

Transverse depression  on nails is a symmetry. CAUSE- sudden illness, prolonged illness, used to strong chemicals heavy medication.

TREATMENT

No treatment, refer the client to a chiropodist

MANICURE AND PEDICURE

The word manicure originates from the LATIN  word MANUS for hand and cure for care, Manicure is a treatment that helps to improve the appearance of hands and nails
